1950s mid century two tier flying saucer swing arm desk lamp manufactured by Art Specialty Co, Chicago. This wonderful Art Deco style desk lamp features a very heavy supporting copper toned base with a gray upper canopy shade. A contrasting white lower shade/deflector helps to reflect the light beautifully. A swivel arm supports the two shades. This also allows easy access to the bulb below when it needs replacing. A small swivel on/off switch sits at the bottom of the copper bulb holder. The swivel support arm is attached with a dazzling raw brass mount that provides a touch of sophistication.
When we found this wonderful piece it was suffering from a terrible hand brushed paint job in all black. It was completely stripped and repainted. The base in copper gloss, shade top in iron mountain gray satin, and shade underside and deflector in linen white matte. We thought the combination came out beautifully. During the restoration we repaced the light socket and added golden twisted cloth covered cord with a period accurate plug. The lamp takes a standard light bulb. Shade is 13" in diameter. Base is 7" in diameter.
70 years and still amazing. A wonderful addition for your office or mid-century home.
